my first attempt at pottery

during a professional development day at school, the wellness committee arranged for staff to participate in activities that ranged from high tea to mountain biking. you may ask how is that professional development?  okay most of you just want to know how i made these! lol!

well, i selected pottery.  here are my results...we were given minimal instruction and free range as what we were to make.  after some pondering and playing with ideas, i rolled the clay, used rubber stamps from the dollar store to press the design into the clay and then used a dragonfly cookie cutter to acheive the shape!  !  after they were fired in the kiln, i then glazed them and viola!  they will rest on my vanity for now, they may become magnets later!

i love the strength, the beauty and the elegance of dragonflies!!

this card was made using cardstock i received as blog candy from melanie at courtney-lane designs...it is sei paper and included in the generous blog candy were coordinating chipboard tags, brads, flowers, rub-ons, ...the silver leaf is from my stash of many years and it coordinated perfectly with the strip of cardstock that i have going across the base cardstock, it may be hard to tell but there is an embossed leaf pattern that matches the actual leaf!  i tried to achieve a more masculine feel to the card as it is for a vice principal that is leaving our school for a position at another high school with a brand new program for students with special needs.  i will stamp a sentiment on the front later.

dream

i love this colour combo!!! lol! this is again cardstock from the mother's day gift from my teacher.  cardmaking is simplified when you have such beautiful patterns that require little more than an embellishment.  here i have added a chipboard accent "dream" and layered ribbons from a thrift store and michaels.  the button was a gift from another teacher at school!  everyone knows i have very limited monies so they share!  i have finally started to decorate the inside of the cards with bits of leftover cardstock that may not make it as a usable scrap for another project but it just finishes this card along with a rub-on sentiment, beautifully.  this card is for a teacher that just got engaged and she keeps the cards i give her and displays them on her mantle!!!  i need to make her another card as she is leaving for another school.  it's that time of year!

hummingbird tri fold shutter card

my first attempt at a tri fold shutter using the picture tutorial at split coast stampers.  i think a video tutorial would be easier just to figure out how the folds work.  i mistakenly used a cardstock with a white core so i would definitely be more careful the next time.  but pretty satisfying results!

follow your heart

the patterned paper is from a stack (i think dcwv) that my teacher gave a co worker for mother's day, i received a different stack from the teacher.  each one had three sheets of each pattern so we swapped out a sheet of each to give to each other and included a sheet of coordinating tags!  i used the martha stewart lace punch for the edging... finally learned how to use it properly, now the scallops match up each time!  the pink and green with polka dots is a ribbon that i purchased years ago at costco but it matched perfectly to the colours of the diamond pattern at the top!  this card is for a co worker that is leaving our school to work in a different setting, the sentiment is "follow your heart".

class of 2010

hi! been busy but got new batteries for camera and am posting once again.  here are cards i made using cardstock i received as a gift from my teacher for mother's day.  the cards are for some students  that i have worked directly with and want to give them a congratulatory card as a memento of their graduation!

due to professional committments, it is with sadness and regret that i will no longer be on the team of fairies. at this time, i have declined any further involvement in the contributor's showcases  at cute and some blog.  however i will continue to support the fairies efforts to encourage crafters to submit their creations for others to enjoy and be inspired by their talents!

elephant card

this thank you card was created for a co-worker who wanted a quirky card for a friend who loves elephants. i went into design studio (ds) to determine if i had a cart with an elephant and while ds did display carts with an elephant image, i did not have any of the carts on the list!  somewhere in my overdraft memory (lol!) bank, i thought i had a elephant image so i just kept clicking on the carts i had that may have the image and when i clicked on everyday paperdolls i did not immediately find the elephant but i knew i was in the right cart because surprisingly, it has many animals including lion, giraffe, monkey, ostrich and more! what a bonus! 

i don't know if i hit the quirky factor as i originally wanted to cut the elephant out of an animal print paper...i have giraffe, tiger, leopard and more but with that overdraft memory bank!  i couldn't remember where i put those papers.  perhaps i should revisit how i organize...?  the shell buttons under the word "thanks" is a coverup for a smudge i made with my inky fingers, oops.

susie's and vikki's christmas club challenge #12

the theme at susie's and vikki's christmas club challenge this week is silver and blue or blue and silver...so i created the above card with paper from my christmas scrap stash, the tag from a paper stack i bought about 5 years ago, the snowflake brad from my embellishment stash, the thicker silver snowflakes from a garland purchased at the dollar store about 8 years ago and cut up and finally the "believe" came from an embellishment pack from a liquidation store!  i'm still meeting my goal of using the products i have on hand.

the above two cards are my recycled christmas cards in each case i just added embellishments from my stash.  three more cards ready for christmas!

look what i won from cute and some!

i won a flag book!!!  it arrived on thursday but i have been out of town visiting my mom and brothers for easter.  i have used the photo that audrey from cute and some had posted of her flag book because my batteries are not working :(  i intend to use the flag book to make a small scrap book of scamp, my fur baby or if the truth be told, the fur baby that lives in the house as her loyalities are for the person with food or the most comfortable bed!  audrey also included matching papers that i will create embellishments with and there were rub ons with small scale designs suitable for a small book!  when i get batteries for the camera and get the printer issues resolved to print scamp photos for the album, i will post my finished project. thanks audrey!

with milk chocolate, of course! lol? no, oh well i made you look!

what once was a coffee sleeve ...now is an easter basket!  for the purpose of recycling, i have used a remnant of ribbon for the bunny's ear.

Easter is here!!!

these were all created using the Easter 2010 cart and embossing the card fronts and envelope flaps with the cuttlebug!  what fun this was...have to get back to laundry!  p.s, for those wondering, i did use my wallpaper sample, i'm sure you will find it...look for the easter grass!
